Haldimand is strung along the lower Grand River and down to Lake Erie, and it has no single centre — Caledonia at the north end, Dunnville near the river mouth, with Hagersville, Cayuga and Jarvis between them and farm country filling everything else. The county reads as a series of separate small towns rather than one municipality, and the driveway work is distributed the same way.
Haldimand County follows the lower Grand River in Southwestern Ontario — we serve cities and towns across the southwest.
Small-town replacements, river and lakeshore lots, and farm lanes across a county with no single centre.
For a slab that's cracked, sunken, heaving, or spalling — if the base has failed, replacing it is the chance to fix the cause, not just the surface.
For a new build, an addition, or a first-time paved driveway — the finish grade, excavation, and drainage all get set before any concrete goes down.
Rebar or mesh sized to the load, plus control joints so the slab cracks where it's meant to rather than at random.
Excavating to depth, compacting a base that drains, and grading so water sheds away instead of pooling and freezing underneath — the biggest factor in surviving freeze-thaw.
Breaking out and hauling away the old slab and any sub-base that won't compact — part of almost every replacement or widening.
For a second parking space or squaring off a narrow drive, tied cleanly into the existing slab with any municipal width limit confirmed first.
Same base, drainage, and reinforcement rules as a full driveway, at a smaller scale — a poorly built apron fails just as fast.
Patterns stamped into the surface and sealed, for the look of stone or pavers without the shifting joints.
The surface washed back to expose the stone for texture and grip, finished and cured differently on the same structural base.
Caledonia is the busiest end of the county, close enough to Hamilton that it has taken on commuter housing alongside its older core, so a job there might be a first pour on a recent lot or a replacement on a street that has been there far longer. Further south, Hagersville, Cayuga, Jarvis and Dunnville are smaller and more self-contained, with established housing on ordinary lots and driveways that have had decades to follow the ground beneath them. On those the work is the standard correction: take the slab out, rebuild what is underneath so it drains, and pour again. Older streets throughout carry mature planting, so roots near a driveway are worth locating during the excavation.
Two things distinguish the county from an ordinary run of small towns. The first is the Grand River, which runs the length of it — properties near the river and down toward the lake can sit on lower ground where getting water to leave a driveway is a deliberate grading decision rather than something the land does for you. The second is the amount of working farmland, and the lanes that come with it: length graded across the whole run, a culvert at the road end, and thickness set for equipment where equipment uses it. Because the communities are spread out, travel is a real part of planning a job here. What is under a given property varies across the county and gets checked once the ground is open.

The cost factors are consistent — in Haldimand, lane length, grading on low ground near the river or lake, and travel between the communities are what usually move the number.
We don’t post a Haldimand County price we haven’t stood on the site to confirm — every job gets a firm written quote after we see the driveway and the access.
Typical concrete driveway jobs homeowners in the area ask us to quote. These are common project types, not a record of specific completed jobs.
Common request
Replacement in Dunnville, Hagersville or Cayuga — removing an older small-town driveway and rebuilding the ground beneath it.
Common request
New pour on a Caledonia commuter lot — a first driveway on recent housing at the county's north end, dug and compacted rather than laid on the builder's grade.
Common request
Farm lane or low-lying river-side drive — a lane graded along its length, or a driveway on low ground where runoff has to be sent deliberately.
Spread-out rural work is easy to underquote and then rush. Worth asking before you hire:
A driveway that fails in three winters was never a saving.
A town driveway comes down to area, removal and finish; a farm lane to length and load. Travel is a genuine factor across a spread-out county. Written quote after a site visit.
Across the county — Caledonia, Dunnville, Hagersville, Cayuga, Jarvis and the farm properties between them.
It is a grading question. On low ground water will not leave the surface on its own, so the pitch is set deliberately to send it away from the buildings. We read that on site.
It will if it is specified for it. Tell us what drives on it and thickness and reinforcement get set for that rather than a residential standard.
Usually yes. A builder's grade is typically foundation spoil put back and levelled, not compacted material that drains.
A town driveway is a day or two plus curing. A long lane runs longer and is sometimes staged.
Entrance and width requirements come from Haldimand County, and a rural entrance may have its own process. Confirm before starting.
Foot traffic after a few days, vehicles after about a week. Heavier equipment waits longer.
